NHS Treatment Charges
NHS dental treatment is charged in bands - you only pay one charge for each course of treatment, even if you need several visits. NHS availability varies, so please call us on 01902 675 801 to check.

Urgent / emergency treatment

Emergency care in a primary care NHS dental practice, such as pain relief or a temporary filling.

Band 1

An examination, diagnosis (including X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if clinically needed, and preventative care such as fluoride varnish or fissure sealant if appropriate.

Everything in Band 1, plus further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removal of teeth - but not the more complex items covered by Band 3.

Everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures, bridges and other laboratory work.
Who gets free NHS dental treatment?
You don’t have to pay for NHS dental treatment if, when treatment starts, you:
- are under 18
- are 18 and in full-time education
- are pregnant or have had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts
- receive Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- receive Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
- are named on, or entitled to, an NHS tax credit exemption certificate
- are named on a valid HC2 certificate (full help with health costs)
You may be asked to show proof that you don’t need to pay.

- This is a guide - you will be given an itemised, personalised estimate of your treatment costs after consultation with your dentist.
- An initial administration fee of £9.50 is collected with the first Denplan payment only.
- Plan discounts do not apply to orthodontic treatment, oral surgery appointments or implants.
Appointments policy
Missed & Late Cancelled Appointments
We understand that you may sometimes need to cancel or rearrange. Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice by phone or email, so we can offer the appointment to another patient.
Missed and short-notice appointments are very difficult to fill and mean other patients miss out on care. In 2024 alone, the practice lost 123 hours to missed appointments and a further 266 hours to cancellations made within 24 hours.
- Due to demand, if a new NHS patient misses an appointment, we will not be able to offer further NHS appointments.
- Regular NHS patients who miss, or cancel at short notice, two appointments will be offered future appointments on a private basis, with a deposit required.
- Private patients who miss an appointment may be charged for the appointment time missed (see “Other” fees above).
- The same applies if you arrive too late for us to complete your treatment.
We do understand that emergencies happen - if something unexpected comes up, please call us as soon as you can.

Will I know the cost before treatment starts?
Yes. After your consultation your dentist will give you an itemised, personalised estimate, and nothing goes ahead until you are happy with the plan and the cost.
Can I have NHS treatment at Highview?
We see NHS patients, but availability varies. Please call us on 01902 675 801 to check current NHS availability. NHS treatment is charged in bands, shown above, and is free for those who qualify.
What is included in the new patient offer?
New patients can book a comprehensive examination and 2 X-rays for £39.95 (normally £80). It is a great way to get to know us and find out exactly where your oral health stands.
Can I spread the cost of my dental care?
Our Denplan membership plans let you pay a fixed monthly amount, with routine care included and savings on many treatments. See our membership plans page for details.
Why are some fees shown as “from” or with a “+”?
Some treatments vary with the complexity of your case, the number of teeth involved or the materials used. Your dentist will confirm the exact cost in your written estimate.
